Poetry: Here I Must Belong

This world I’ve known for long
Yet it seems like there’s another where I must belong
Somewhere I am welcomed, a place I understand,
Among the trees, the birds, some water, a quiet land

For here I must smile,
Through pain and hurt
Hide and cry inside my crumbling fort
The wounds only get bigger each day
Healing is a privilege for which I must pay

But this the only world there is
And I don’t want to be like this
I want to be me even while you see
This world where I live, It must be
Safe for you and me
